What are the chances that there would be two American historians of U.S. history with the names “Colin Woodward” and “Colin Woodard”? The observable evidence suggests the answer is “very good” and Colin E. Woodward and I have been forced to get to know each other for the simple fact that readers are constantly confusing us with one another, forcing us to forward misdirected email, praise, trolling, or what have you. (I have a similar relationship with fellow journalist Collin Woodard, who writes about cars.)
So we decided to just embrace the situation and do an episode of his (excellent) podcast, American Rambler, together recently. We chatted about everything from Eastern Europe to pirates to my latest book, Union, to give you this episode. Tune in and enjoy!
Woodward, by the way, has a book coming out on Johnny Cash, which I’m looking forward to.
