Presenting on American Nations and health outcomes, National Academy of Sciences, Washington, DC, Sept. 27

I’ll be presenting at the National Academy of Sciences Roundtable on Obesity Solutions meeting September 27 in Washington, DC. My role is to discuss the influence of regional cultures in the observed distribution of obesity and other health factors, which I and c-authors at the University of Illinois-Chicago and the University of Minnesota published on in Progress in Cardiovascular Disease in July. Ross Arena, the lead author of that paper, will be co-presenting in our segment of the proceedings, entitled “Linking U.S. Regional Cultures, Obesity Prevalence, and Tailored Messaging Interventions.”
COLIN WOODARD is a New York Times bestselling author, historian and award-winning journalist. He is the author of seven books that have been translated into a dozen foreign languages and inspired an NBC television drama. He is currently Director of Nationhood Lab at the Pell Center for International Relations and Public Affairs at Salve Regina University. As State and National Affairs Writer at Maine's Portland Press Herald, he won a 2012 George Polk Award and was a finalist for a 2016 Pulitzer Prize.
